Sunday A Suffolk County Auxiliary Police captain helped a neighbor rescue animals from a house fire and evacuate neighboring residents in Ronkonkoma today.

Jamorn Chindananta noticed black smoke coming from his neighbor’s home at 971 Baeck St. at approximately 9:45 a.m. Chindananta responded to the home and encountered a female resident in the garage who said her four dogs were still in the house. Chindananta and the resident removed the dogs before the home became fully engulfed in fire.

Chindananta, who has served as an auxiliary officer for 16 years, then notified residents of adjacent homes to evacuate.

Firefighters from Lakeland Fire Department, Nesconset Fire Department, Bohemia Fire Department, Holtsville Fire Department, and Hauppauge Fire Department responded to extinguish the fire.

Arson Section detectives are investigating to determine the cause of the fire.
