Beautiful Lake Ronkonkoma Resorts

There were 2 primary reasons Lake Ronkonkoma became such a resort area for those living in the 5 boroughs of New York City.

Reason # 1 The Long Island Railroad.  This main source of traffic for the region was a great way for dozens of communities to have a vacation retreat at Long Island's largest fresh water lake.

Reason # 2 Vanderbilt Motor Parkway.  For those who had the money and could afford a car as early as the Model A Ford cars, found a main road that lead ride up to Lake Ronkonkoma.

Jackie Gleason, Ronald Reagan, Jack Benny George Burns and many other talents of that era would stay and entertain visitors here.

During the World War 2 era, much of the resorts closed and even burned in fires.  Slowly people ended up staying and making full time residences in the area.  Developers would advertise in NYC region papers as sell home for as little at $9,900.00.

In future posts, we will share some great historic pictures of the region back in it's hay day.
